Services
In early spring (late March to early April), fill individual plant pots with clean potting soil.
Place the acorns horizontally in the soil about 1 1/2 inches deep and water.
Place the pots in a south-facing window or under an artificial light source and keep the soil moist.
During the next few weeks, the acorns will sprout into a sapling, with a few tiny, yet visible oak leaves.
As the trees grow, transplant them into larger containers.
Do not allow the trees to become root bound, or dried out.

For most deciduous (broadleaf) trees, don't prune up from the bottom any more than of the tree's total height.
For most species, the tree should have a single trunk.
Identify the best leader and later branches before you begin pruning and remove defective parts before pruning for form.
Don't worry about protecting pruning cuts.
For aesthetics, you may feel better painting large wounds but it doesn't prevent or reduce decay.
When simply shortening a small branch, make the cut at a lateral bud or another lateral branch.

Live oak is a large spreading tree of the lower Coastal Plain from southeastern Virginia to southern Florida and to southern Texas.
It normally grows in low sandy soils near the Coast but also occurs in moist rich woods and along stream banks.
On the Emerald Coast, Live Oaks often support many types of epiphytic plants, including Spanish moss, which hangs in weeping garlands, giving the trees a striking appearance.
Live oak is a fast-growing tree.
Sweet edible acorns are usually produced in great abundance and are of value to many birds and mammals including wild turkeys, wood ducks, jays, quail, whitetail deer, raccoons, and squirrels.

One of the biggest pruning mistakes is cutting off branches in the wrong place.
Amateurs tend to leave too much of a stub when removing branches.
Once the stub dies off, it creates an entry point for disease pathogens and destructive insects.
Unlike human beings, trees don't regenerate tissue.
While our skin replaces itself, trees grow new tissue around wounds and compartmentalizes them.
