For over 30 years Past Designs has created attractive outdoor spaces for working, living and recreating, dedicated to protecting the environment, and preserving the rich landscape legacy that defines the Northeastern United States. The office is headed by Lucinda Brockway, an award-winning historic landscape specialist, residential landscape designer & author.

Ms. Brockway does not believe in dominating the design process. Instead, she strongly believes that the most successful designs are built out of collaboration - between client, contractor, designer and resident. Our office recognizes that this philosophy includes all of these people, and a plethora of other small office personnel brought in for their special expertise on individual projects.
Services
As one of New England's top landscape design companies, our approach to landscape architecture and garden design is simple: we seek to capture the best of the old while integrating fresh, new perspectives where appropriate.
In some projects the aim is to celebrate the native plants & pre-existing conditions whenever possible and to create an environment that is wholly in keeping with the beauty of the natural scene.
In other sites, our work breathes new life into an aging garden design or important relic of landscape architecture.
Past Designs has been honored to work with historic preservation planning teams to rejuvenate some of America's most treasured historic sites.
From large estates to small New England village lots, our historic preservation planning has preserved these landscape legacies using the most up to date preservation policies and technologies.
Our historic garden designs have rejuvenated the work of such notables as Marion Cruger Coffin, Arthur Shurcliff, Fletcher Steele, Ogden Codman, Ernest Bowditch, the Olmsted Brothers and numerous nineteenth century professional gardener/designers.
