Our plan was to build a firm that could handle anything from the simplest front stoop or walkway renovation to the most complex grounds transformation for a large-scale estate. Through the years, we have been fortunate to assemble the skilled staff of designers and craftsman to do just that.

Founded in 2008 on the principles of providing excellent value to our clients through creative and functional designs and skillfully constructed projects, Nature's Apprentice is a premier landscape design-build firm serving central and northern New Jersey. From an initial consultation with owner, Sean Murray, to concept and plan development and all the way through project construction, we pride ourselves on our communication and client engagement.

We strive to understand our clients and develop a project that reflects their tastes, while complementing the character of the home and the property. Whether it be a classic bluestone patio with brick or fieldstone accessory structures, a sleek contemporary paver patio using the latest in hardscape products or anything in between, we'll work with you to help you determine the style and materials that will get you excited to spend time living outside.
Services
With over 25 years of industry experience, our founder and owner, Sean Murray, has literally been in thousands of backyards.
Having seen plenty of best practices and worst case scenarios, Sean has the experience to help you avoid common pitfalls and mistakes and provide creative solutions and design elements for your project.
In addition to a Bachelors Degree in Economics and Undergrad Certificate in Ornamental Horticulture, Sean has numerous industry certifications including: ICPI, NCMA and CNLP and he's always looking to learn what's next in outdoor living.
We like to say that we service from 'Mantoloking to Mahwah'.
Through a combination of referrals and our relationships with past clients, pool companies and contractors, our work tends to take us all over New Jersey.
We have a network of suppliers, as well as a fleet of support trucks, so that we can efficiently work in any area within the state and are not solely reliant on vendor delivery schedules to keep our projects moving.
From breathtaking waterfalls and water features, to fire bowls and ornate stone work, to slides, flumes and grottos, swimming pools provide an amazing canvas to create stunning works for years of fun and entertainment for your family and friends.
Swimming pools bring endless design possibilities as the show piece for any project, but they also provide many unique construction challenges.
We can not express how often we have seen the above considerations handled improperly during installation.
We're often called out to consult on repairing projects that may have been 'cheap' when they went in, but more often than not, need to be completely re-built.
This is where old world craftsmanship meets modern technology.
People have been building stone walls and roadways for thousands of years.
For the most part the basics haven't changed - it takes a skilled hand to select and shape the stones for the right fit and look.
Whether it be stacked stone walls, veneered walls or wet or dry-laid stone patios, we have the experienced staff to build something that will look beautiful today and will continue to look beautiful as it endures the challenges of our climate in the northeast.
Many clients tend to overlook the value of plants when designing a poolscape, patio or any other outdoor living space.
Plants have a calming effect and will immediately turn a sterile hardscape into a garden, where you'll want to spend more time.
We often hear homeowners describe past struggles to keep plants alive and previous maintenance issues with poorly designed landscapes.
A well-designed garden or planting plan requires very little maintenance or homeowner attention as it matures.
We take a lot into consideration when specifying plants for a specific site, to provide a hardy and beautiful landscape that will not require constant gardening.
