Combining plantings and stonework, we create gardens of timeless, classic beauty that can be enjoyed throughout the year. English Gardens & Landscaping creates and installs award winning residential garden designs and landscapes that evoke the abundant color and luxuriant verdure of English and European gardens. We design landscapes to incorporate natural stonework and plantings appropriate to our clients' architecture, environment and lifestyles.

Based in Connecticut, English Gardens & Landscaping has designed and installed gardens throughout the United States and England. When working with new clients, English Gardens & Landscaping conduct an extensive interview process to determine our client's preferences, lifestyle, how the garden environment will be used as well as many other considerations in order to create landscape designs that reflect our clients' expectations.
Services
Transplanted from Yorkshire, England, Andrew Pighills is passionate about his english garden heritage and the art of creating stone structures.
He received his formal horticulture training with the Royal Horticultural Society and has completed stone building apprenticeships with master stone artisans in the Yorkshire Dales, including certification with the Drystone Walling Association of Great Britain.
His many years spent creating gardens and building traditional stone structures in his native England has earned him a devoted list of private and public clients both here in the USA and in England.
We create gardens to suit every taste and mood, from a vibrant sun drenched border to invigorate the spirit, through a tranquil woodland glade to soothe the soul.
We think of landscape design as an extension of your home.
All aspects of the exterior design must work together as a coherent series of garden rooms.
Site planning including design of softscaping (planting layouts and plans) and hardscaping (built structures).
Additionally we can select garden furniture, design garden structures, select sculpture, design special art features and offer interior design services for garden rooms and conservatories.
Project Brief: What was previously a family summer home was converted to a year-round residence.
A new wing was added and the resultant altered footprint of the house called for a different approach to the landscaping.
The property is nestled in a forested woodland and faces onto a broad field with views to a lake.
Objective: We worked with our client to preserve the natural woodland setting, maintaining views of the lake while, at the same time, creating sophisticated transitional garden spaces immediately surrounding the house.
Project Brief: This compact suburban property had been neglected for a decade and was engulfed in overgrowth.
Ivy had swallowed up much of the house and the sidewalks, wisteria had blocked the light from the windows and grass and weeds had submerged old stepping stone paths creating dangerous conditions for the client and her visitors.
Objective: The client wanted to preserve her privacy and at the same time create spaces for outdoor entertaining as well as to display a collection of sculpture.
Objective: The clients entertain frequently, enjoy gardening and their children participate in equestrian sports.
The clients expressed a strong desire to create the feeling of bringing the outdoors indoors.
The house fronts on a busy road and they wanted to create a privacy screen here.
Solution: Develop a hardscaping plan that would provide privacy and create a series of linked outdoor rooms.
We wanted to explore variety and create distinctly different garden settings.
The clients' love of gardening permitted us to incorporate some higher maintenance features including a fish pond, a rose garden and a fernery.
