Since 1995 when I started my company, Jan Nelson Landscape Design, I have been helping to create the perfect outdoor space for my clients. I worked for many years as the manager of The Plantworks Nursery in Ben Lomond and was a trusted source of advice about plant selection, care and how to use them in the garden. I can combine a clients wishes into a landscape design that fits their lifestyle and surroundings.
I enjoy many styles of landscaping and strive to bring year round colorful foliage, flowers and texture to each design. To help clients create their dream garden I added to my knowledge of plants and landscape design at Cabrillo College and UC Berkeley Extension Design program. I have worked with hundreds of clients, guiding them through the design process to create gardens unique to them and their property and lifestyle.
With my knowledge of hardscaping in the garden and love of plants, I can create a design that transforms your dream into a landscape you can enjoy for many years.

Services
Located in the Zayante area of Felton the owners of this beautiful property wanted to develop sitting areas and garden rooms as well as an eventual pool.
The first priority was a long pathway on the side of the lawn leading to an old shed.
A flower bed on the side of the driveway also needed color as the kitchen windows look directly onto this area.
The clients like lots of color and love to tend to their plants as do the local deer.
The client provided lots of ideas to review that she had clipped from magazines and I thought several could be incorporated into the garden successfully.

This beautiful garden is located in the Zayante area of Felton.
The soil is sandy and the deer are quite at home here.
The clients had several requests on their wish list to be incorporated in the final design.
They had waited for over 10 years to do something with the area and they wanted to have their dream garden realized.
They had collected pictures of gardens and plants that they liked which they hoped could be an inspiration for their garden.
The clients work out of their home and the views from their offices were important considerations.

This home is located in the woods in Boulder Creek.
The clients wanted the yard to be more usable for their children and the dogs to play in.
They also needed a place to back up the boat trailer so it could be parked on the side.
The back yard is fenced and protected from deer but the front is not.
Since the client has two childern she wanted the landscaping to be low maintenance but also to colorful.
The front yard was designed with the lawn as the focal point for the children to play on and small trees like Dogwood and Japanese Maples surrounding the border and corner sitting area.

This beautiful little garden was created out of a long-time desire to beautify a plain unused backyard into a garden that was both useful and scenic.
The owner had a wish list from magazine articles and could barely contain her excitement over having some of these ideas come to life in her little part of the world.
She had some problem areas like disguising the triplex at the back of the property that they used occasionally when relatives came to visit so it had to somehow be incorporated into the design.

When the owner of this property had a new water treatment system installed the entire yard was destroyed.
Now he had a reason to redesign his garden from the bottom up, including all the elements he had been dreaming about.
An old aggregate patio formed the base for the new Three Rivers flagstone patio which is now the focal point of the new garden.
Flagstone paths circle the entire garden making it an experience.
A short fence was added along the road to enclose the space and make it more intimate.
