Gayle Gardens is a female-owned and operated landscaping company that began as a small gardening operation born from years of landscaping experience and has evolved into a design/build studio, and maintenance company specializing in ecological design. Soil is an integral part of landscape processes. Our company goes beyond the baseline assessment of soil chemistry and looks at the biology that is responsible for decomposing organic compounds, fixing nitrogen, and enhancing soil aggregation.

Through careful plant selection and seasonal support, we design to extend both the longevity of our landscapes as well as its seasonal impact. We feel that each unique landscape carries a narrative that can arrive with the earliest Spring bulbs and depart with late, winter-frosted umbels. With an education in permaculture and biodynamics, we are attuned to natural pests and diseases brought by the changing seasons, and seek solutions to those problems as faithful stewards of the land.

This involves a discipline of observing and knowing a landscape from the inside-out, all year long, while improving soil biology in an effort to strengthen plant material on a cellular level.

Gayle Gardens is a company governed by a sick passion for design and science.
In an effort to create beautiful landscapes, we know that good design will not sustain itself unless it has the right groundwork.
Regular soil assessments that look at the life in the soil are the most important first step in restoring and rebalancing any landscape.
Without a healthy balance of bacteria and fungi, the soil food web is weakened and the environment suffers.
While we plan to deliver stunning landscapes, we also consider how the land can serve the design, how it may evolve ten and twenty years down the line, and plan accordingly.
Our first step is to meet with you on-site and see what we're working with.
Each project comes with its own unique attributes, needs and goals.
After our meeting, we will begin to formulate a design proposal based on this site visit taking into account budget, hopes and dreams, peaks and valleys.
Our design proposal is the next stage of development.
We'll send you a digital file with design concepts including coordinated base map detail, functional spaces that will be sited and aligned, and plant companions to lay the bones of your landscape.
We love to keep an eye on our young designs to ensure the healthy evolution of the landscape, so we like to maintain what we build.
Imagining the land decades down the road, we believe the success of the landscape over time is in the follow-through.
After the design is implemented, here is an idea of what a typical maintenance schedule may look like.
Planting beds and plant material are cleaned of winter debris.
Soil is cultivated, adding necessary amendments including organic fertilizers and compost tea.
